Trevor Shackles: 2018 Draft Prospect Profile: Adam Boqvist In part one of many, I look at defense prospect Adam Boqvist who the Senators could be looking to draft at 4th overall

Still hoping we can get Zadina, and MTL will go for Tkachuck. If Zadina is taken, I would seriously consider Wahlstrom at 4. Also a big Kotkaniemi fan.
Dmen would be fine but not my first choice: also my eyes are not good enough to chose between Bouchard/Hughes/Boqvist who is the best dman.

Wouldnt mind trading back to 8 or 9 and pick bpa there, don't think Rangers and Hawks are interested in that though.

What worries me about Boqvist isn't his lack of production against top competition in the Swedish league but his size coupled with the fact he has had 2 concussions already (that we know of). Possible he could have a long career without another one but also possible his next one could end his career and he'd be in the same spot Franzen is.

For this reason i could see him being this years player that drops at the draft. There is almost always one player rated high that drops every year and i could see him being it this year. I think plenty could overlook the size given how the NHL is now but a smaller kid with a concussion history already from playing in a way less physical league is likely to raise some red flags with some teams.

The size thing doesn't concern me at all, since Karlsson was 165 when he was drafted. Never saw anything about the concussions though, that's a bit worrisome. Although I really don't think there's much correlation between being smaller and getting more concussions, a lot of big players get hurt too.

Still though, not great to have two already.

I know there is no correlation between size and concussions since Franzen wasn't a small guy (neither was Lindros or Pronger) but i assume it was from being bodychecked (i don't know how it happened but just know he got two in one year). Being smaller can play a bit of a role since it is easier for a big guy to end up hitting a smaller players head in a bodycheck even if it is by accident.

His size mainly concerns me for the fact he is getting concussions playing in a league not known for punishing physical play...what happens when he is dealing with huge physical players from the NHL?

I'm saying nobody should draft the kid because he is small but a concussion history at that age should be concerning teams in a position to draft him. It's a bit more of a risk for a top 5 or top 10 team to take given other options available in that draft. Almost every mock draft video i have seen and what i read, every time they talk about Boqvist, nobody seems to bring up that concussion issue for some reason. Maybe most don't know about it or think it doesn't matter but i would imagine the GMs sure as hell know about it and it has to be a concern when you are looking to add a core piece to your team for a decade+.

If it weren't for that i wouldn't mind the Wings drafting him but after seeing what happened to Franzen, it makes me kind of hope they draft someone else even if he is still on the board. Love his skill but i don't think the Wings can afford to risk it given the state of their defense. Hughes/Bouchard/Dobson seem like the better pick for them at this point.

Oh I certainly think we could talk, think Rangers would love to trade up to 4

And having Quinn as coach now, who recruited Tkachuk to BU, could be a factor here

Interesting about Boqvist concussions, I had to look through some swedish media to do some research.

I can only find information about one concussion (allthough there are reports about his brother Jesper getting one in 2017) and that occoured in the semi-final i U18 i april this year. He got tripped/fell in high speed behind his own net and chrashed into the boards back first. Doesnt sound like it was a serious one, but a concussion nontheless.
